Frank Pruette Obituary

Frank Hancock Pruette, 84, died Monday, October 06, 2008 at home.
Frank was born in Wadesboro, on October 10, 1923 to the late Elizabeth Hancock and Rowland Shaw Pruette.
Frank attended school in Wadesboro and Wake Forest University where he was a member of the baseball team and Kappa Alpha Order. He was a WWII veteran, serving with the 29th Infantry Division in the European Theatre. Frank landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day on June 6, 1944. During his service he received Four Battle Stars, an Infantry Combat Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. After his retirement, he delighted in talking to civic groups and particularly high school students about World War II.
Frank worked for Carolina Power and Light Company for over 39 years, the last 20 years as District Manager in Sanford. He had been a member of the Rotary Club since 1954 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was very active in civic organizations, serving as president of the Oxford, NC Rotary Club and president of the United Fund of Lee County. In addition, Frank was a past president of the Sanford Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors of the Lee County Industrial Park. Frank was a member of First Baptist Church in Sanford where he served as treasurer and taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Peggy) Hardison Pruette; daughter, Meg Peet Averett and husband, Ben of Raleigh; son, Frank Hancock Pruette, Jr. and wife, Lorah of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, William Michael Nilan of Raleigh, Christopher Hancock Nilan of Charlotte, Mary Chandler Pruette and Elizabeth McLendon Pruette of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Mrs. Betsy Pruette Bost of Charlotte, and Mrs. Peggy Pruette Mangum of Faison; sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary V. Pruette of Winston-Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Rowland Shaw Pruette of Winston-Salem.
Burial will be held at Buffalo Church Cemetery in Sanford at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. A service of celebration of the Resurrection of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. following the burial, at the First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the service or at their home at other times.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund at 202 Summit Drive or Community Home Care and Hospice at 809 Wicker Street. Both are located in Sanford, NC 27330.

I just learned of Mr. Pruette's passing and want you to know that the family is in our thoughts and prayers. He was always so nice to me and my sisters while growing up. I know that you will miss him. God bless him.
