Gerard Prete Obituary

Gerard Lewis Prete

Clayton

Gerard Lewis Prete "Gerry" passed away on February 1st at his home in Clayton, NC.

There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.

Gerry is survived by his wife Janie, daughter Nicole Deeds (Rick), son Dan Prete (Danielle), his five grandchildren, Dominick, Dylan, Alex, Sammy, and Carley. He also leaves his sister, Clare Steininger.

Gerry was proud of his service with Air Rescue of the United States Air Force. He later started a career with IBM and worked there for many years before retiring. He was an avid sports fan and loved the New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. He also lied about his golf score for many years. He was a big part of St. Francis By the Sea where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or a charity of their choice.

His family is sincerely grateful for all the love and support shown to them from family and friends.

Remembering a guy who could always make us smile. He could even sing the Canadian National anthem off our back deck balancing a beer oh his forehead.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Gerry. He coached my Monocacy Braves baseball team and played on my Dad's softball teams. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Prete family.

I just came across this condolence page for Gerry a few minutes ago, and I'm very saddened of his passing. Gerry helped me coach Little League baseball, and We played together on several men's softball teams around Poolesville. He was a great baseball coach, loved the game, and loved the kids. Danny was a very good player also, and a dependable talented pitcher. Even though I haven't been in touch with Gerry for quite a while, I miss him a lot now. I certainly considered him a close friend back in the Poolesville days. All the best to his family.

Just heard of Gerry's passing from Bob Stolzenberg. Bonnie and I very sorry for your lost. All those many years ago in Poolesville we were such good friends and had so many happy times. That is how I will always remember him and his wonderful sense of humor. God Bless you and all his family. Paris and Bonnie Fuller

We were neighbors in Poolesville, MD. Our children grew up together. I coached Nicole and Dan in basketball when they were little and later Gerry and I coached Dan when Dan was really starting to blossom as a player. Had to spend more time reigning in Gerry's wrath at the referees than coaching! But it was because he was a passionate supporter. He was also a fun guy. I will never forget his fun laugh and penchant for telling a great story. We played softball together and celebrating after one game, after a few beers, we went out on the back deck, and sang the Canadian national anthem - "O Canada" etc. Why? Because we had gotten into talking about all the sports, including hockey. He raved about the Bruins. I raved about the Red Wings. We decided to pay our own tribute to Canada for the neighborhood. Trisha and I saw Gerry and Jane last fall and we still remembered and had another great laugh. Gerry was a good man..a good husband and father. I am proud to have known him as a friend. And, our family's heart goes out to Jane, Nichole and Dan. We love you.Kelly, Trisha, Bridget and Sean Burke
