Gloria Homer

1956 - 2025

Gloria Wernicki Homer died of angiosarcoma on October 26, 2025 in Durham, North Carolina. Gloria was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on January 20, 1956. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Much of her adult life she worked in Delaware government. She was the Secretary of Administrative Services, where she headed one of the largest State agencies. She also served as the Director of the State Capital Budget. Gloria founded the Campus Community School in Dover, Delaware, and was the President of the School Board for a number of years. Gloria was inducted into the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame in 2002.

Gloria retired to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her passions included gardening, reading, travel, baking cakes, caring for her dogs, tennis, and tutoring underprivileged children. Gloria leaves behind her husband, Jerry, her two sons, Daniel and Alexander Homer, her daughter-in-law, Catharine Lao, and her granddaughter, Clara Homer. She is also survived by her brothers, John and Alexander Wernicki, and her sister, Alice Wernicki.

Gloria enjoyed life very much, made the most of her opportunities, and will be missed by many.
