Age 80 · Chesapeake, Virginia.
Gloria W. Lockhart passed away peacefully at her home on October 29, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Harnett County, North Carolina, she was raised in Fuquay-Varina and was the daughter of the late James Godwin Welch and Callie Pate Welch.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Lockhart, Sr., her sister Paulette W. King, and brother-in-law Leonard King.
She is lovingly survived by her three children:
Fred D. Lockhart, Jr. and his wife Crissy, and granddaughter Sofia.
Brad Scott Lockhart and his wife Angela, and grandchildren Ashlyn and Blake.
Shannon D. Maxwell and her husband Max, and grandchildren London, Smith, and Ian.
She is also survived by her siblings: Linda W. Sanford (with whom she was living), Debra W. Currin, and Jimmy W. Welch.
Gloria was a woman of deep faith, guided throughout her life by her love for the Lord and her steadfast belief in His promises. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with loved ones in the presence of her Savior, and that her earthly journey has given way to eternal peace.
Gloria was known for her warmth, generosity, and deep devotion to her family. She never missed a birthday or an opportunity to offer encouragement. Her legacy of love and faith lives on in her children and grandchildren.
She found great joy in the beauty of God's creation and spent many peaceful hours gardening, admiring flowers, and watching the birds that gathered in her yard. Nature was her quiet sanctuary, and those closest to her will always remember the gentle delight she took in every blooming season.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cary, located at 218 S Academy St, Cary, NC 27511.
She is now in the Garden of the Lord.
