Gunther Hermann Obituary

Gunther Herrmann, 86, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Litchford Falls Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Gunther was born December 7, 1922 to Hans and Martha Herrmann in the city of Elberfeld, Germany. His family immigrated to the US when he was three years old, settling in Brooklyn, NY. Gunther served in the US Army during WW II until his discharge in 1944. He went on to marry Dorothy Mae Tempel in October 1946. He lived and worked in New York until moving to Raleigh, NC in 1964 with Schrader & Son where he worked until his first retirement. He went on to work for Parker Hannifin until his second retirement, working a total of 46 years. He retired a third time just three short months ago from The Steel Network, Inc.
Gunther is survived by wife, Dorothy; sons, John and wife, Sharon, Robert and wife, Kathe, James and wife, Natalie and daughter, Karen Hamilton, all of Raleigh. Known as "PopGun" and "Poppy" to eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
Parents and brother, John, predeceased him.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, 5010 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, officiated by Reverend Dr. Michael Frye.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gunther's honor to Grace Lutheran Memorial Fund.
The family would like to bestow a final thanks to the caring staff at Litchford Falls Health Care and Rehabilitation Center for making Dad comfortable in his final days. His warm smile and thoughtful nature will be greatly missed by all.
