Reverend Harold Eugene Daniel, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at PruittHealth in Raleigh, NC surrounded by his family.

Harold was born and raised in Morrisville, North Carolina and was a 1957 graduate of Merrick-Moore High School. He is a proud graduate of the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and supported his alma mater throughout life. He completed graduate studies at the University of Kentucky and North Carolina State University and earned a Master's Degree of Divinity from Shaw University Divinity School. Later, he earned a Degree of Doctor of Theology from Slidell Baptist Seminary.

He had a few careers. Harold was a commissioned officer in the U.S Army serving tours in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, Harold worked as a sales representative for three major medical supply companies, with time spent in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C.

While living in the Washington, D.C metro area, Harold met Phyllis Gibson of Bluefield, West Virginia in 1976. They married in 1977 and celebrated 41 years of happy and fulfilling marriage. Harold and Phyllis relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina to enable Harold to manage the family business, Atwater Rest Home in Apex.

Always social and involved in his community, Harold was active in several organizations, including Prince Hall Freemasonry where he served as District Deputy Grand Master and Grand Lodge Chaplain; and the North Carolina Association of Long Term Care Facilities where he served as District IV Vice President.

In 1994, Harold was called to the ministry and served as pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Dudley, North Carolina. Harold often remarked "I count it a privilege to serve the Lord, for He is worthy of all that I can do in His service."

Harold is survived by his wife Phyllis; sons Anthony and Adrian Daniel of Apex, North Carolina; daughter Elisabeth Daniel of Washington, D.C; and uncle Bruce Daniel of Apex, North Carolina.

Harold is preceded in death by his mother, Clarice Daniel Atwater; and brother, Joseph Edward Atwater.

The service to remember Harold and his life will be held on Saturday, December 29th at noon at Pleasant Grove Church in Cary with visitation at 11 prior to service. Memorial contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Pleasant Grove Church, P.O Box 3603, Cary, NC 27519-3603.
