Henry Blomqvist Obituary

February 4, 1923 - December 22, 2008
Henry Edward Blomqvist passed away with courage and valor on Monday, December 22, 2008 at his home in Apex, surrounded by his three sons and his wife.
Henry was born in New York City, NY on February 4, 1923, a Navy Veteran of World War II and an employee of IBM for over 30 years. He and his family moved to NC in 1964 with the opening of IBM in RTP. He retired from IBM in 1984 and moved to Florida, but returned to NC in 2007 to be with his family during his last days.
Henry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Lou; his daughter, Laurie Harrod of Lexington, KY; and his three sons, John Blomqvist of Raleigh, Joe Blomqvist and his wife, Beverly of Apex, and Will Blomqvist and his wife, Maranda of Cary; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Helen Gugel of Tampa, FL.
The Family would also like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Todd Helton, Hospice Nurse Deb Michels, Pastor Mike Lee and home health care individuals, Anta Nijie, Sharon Ashe and Timmy Bobbitt all of whom provided their extended love and care to enable Henry to spend his last days at home.
Henry was a man that never met a stranger in life, he was a one of a kind character and we're sure he's already met new friends on his new journey. He could make you laugh and he always left you smiling.
In lieu of flowers or contributions do something simple in Henry's honor and take time to say hi to people even perfect strangers and help your neighbor or fellowman and always cherish your friends and loved ones. And when the opportunity presents itself leave them all like Henry did...Laughing!
Arrangements are being handled by the National Cremation. The family will plan a Celebration of Henry's life in the near future.

It's always nice to have the opportunity to read about the lives of the parents of your friends. It is abundently evident in the children the kind of values and personalities that the parents had, even if you never knew them except through their children. Our deepest sympathies.

My Uncle Henry will live in my heart forever. I believe I inherited his love of animals (any animal) and my son has his love of people. I am sure he and my Dad are looking after us all now with all our past pets by their sides. Aunt Lou, Laurie, Will, Joe & John, our love and prayers are with you.

So many memories over 85 years. We were pracksters as youngsters that kept our mother (Ba) on her toes. When Artie and I lived in Ocala, we always enjoyed spending time with him and Mary Lou. I will miss him.

Please know that we are sad due to your loss of a Husband, Father, and friend. Although I did not know him personally, if he instilled the quality in people that his son, Joe, possesses, he most certainly was a great man. May God give you peace during this and all times.
