Mrs. Jacqueline Knott Ledford, 73, of Greensboro, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Lawndale Baptist Church, where she was a member for 36 years. Inurnment will follow at Westminster Gardens for family only.
Born in Douglas, GA, Jackie was the oldest of the six children of Maynard and Catherine Knott of Clayton, NC. A 1949 graduate of Meredith College, she also received a degree in medical technology from Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem in 1950 and worked at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh from 1950-51 and at Gulfport (Mississippi) Memorial Hospital from 1951-53. Between 1953 and 1971, she raised her two sons. Thereafter she was employed by the Guilford County Health Department from 1971 until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
While working and in retirement, she served Lawndale Baptist Church in many membership and leadership roles. She served as Director of The Women's Missionary Union, taught the Joy class of the women's Sunday School for many years, and served on and led several church-wide committees.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, G.M. Ledford; by a son, Anthony D. Ledford of Greensboro; by another son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth F. Ledford and the Rev. Susan W. Holderness of Shaker Heights, OH; and by two grandchildren, Peter and Sarah Ledford, also of Shaker Heights. She is also survived by three sisters and a sister-in-law, Julia Knott Albinger of Greensboro, Patsy Wall Knott of Richmond, VA, Janice Knott Wilson of Charlotte, and Jennifer Knott Melvin of Goldsboro. Additional survivors include her mother-in-law, Margaret A. Ledford, and her brother and sister-in-law, William O. and Janet Burgess, all of Greensboro; as well as 10 nieces and nephews.
