James Ray Anderson

James Ray "J. R." Anderson, 91, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 4, 2013, surrounded by his two daughters. A visitation will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Edgecombe Memorial Park on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Anderson was a Veteran of World War II enlisting in the US Marine Corps and serving as a communications/radio operator in the Pacific Theater. He worked with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad as a telegrapher until his retirement in 1981.
A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Mr. Anderson is survived by two daughters, Mary Buley of Chapel Hill, Carol Tart and husband, David of Newton Grove; three grandchildren, Chris Koonce and wife, Jennifer of Aubrey, Texas, Courtney Plaster and husband, Brian of Carrboro, Caroline Langston and husband, Cody of Ft. Lewis, Washington; one great-granddaughter, Ava Koonce of Aubrey, Texas; three sisters, Edna Pearl Weeks, Mildred Taylor and husband, Joe, Mary Anderson and husband, V. B., all of Tarboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie and Ray Anderson, his beloved wife, Mary Anderson, and his brother and sister-in-law George "Bo" and Edna Anderson.

Family members will receive friends at 1602 Roberson Drive, Tarboro, beginning on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, after 2:00 p.m.
