James Gragg Pyatt, 77, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, at home in Chapel Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie McFarland; his son, Christopher S. Pyatt; grandson, Drake A. Pyatt; and cousins, Alice Hageman and David Pyatt.
As a UNC graduate, Jim was a true and loyal Tar Heel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the UNC Athletic Program or the American Lung Society.

Many, many memories with Jim. We went to school 8-12th grade and socialized outside of school. He was always willing to take part in activities from athletics to drama at our school.

Jim Pyatt was a good man, and an excellent friend. He was very influential to many of us at Harry P. Harding High School in Charlotte. His teaching career ended in 1969 when he decided to use his chemistry knowledge to change careers. Like most folks, we got separated for years, but when we had lunch with Jim and Leslie in 2015, I found that he really hadn't changed much. My sincere condolences to Leslie, Chris and the rest of his family. May he rest in peace.

My heart breaks for the passing of Jim Pyatt.He was an inspiration to all his students at Harding High School early in he career.He remained friends with all of us !Leslie I AM SO SORRY! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!
