Janice Good Obituary

Janice Good
December 1, 1939 - November 1, 2022
Raleigh, North Carolina - Janice Elizabeth (Hinkebein) Good, beloved wife of James (Jim) W. Good, passed into life eternal Tuesday, November 1, 2022, following an extended period of pain and disability.
Born on December 1, 1939, to Robert Bernard Hinkebein, and Alice Marie (Reichert) Hinkebein in Louisville, KY, she was one of nine siblings and is survived by her twin sister, Joyce Alice Volk (Robert A.), sisters Louise Harris (Jay D.) and Ellen Campbell and Brother Dale Frank Hinkebein (Karen) all of Louisville. Predeceasing her were her parents, brothers John and Robert B., Jr (Pat) of Louisville and sister Joan Monarch (Ben) of Hardinsburg, KY and Mary Halsall (Jon) of Alexandria, VA.
Janice attended public schools in Louisville including Dupont Manual High School where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. Upon graduation she and Joyce trained at St. Joseph Infirmary and Ursuline Acadamy preparing for careers in Radiologic technology. Following intensive years of study she began her practice at Louisville's Methodist Hospital.
A faithful and committed member of St. Matthew Evangelical and Reformed Church (later United Church of Christ), she and her sisters sang in the church choir where she would meet her future husband, Jim (who was the Choir Director and Organist and a student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary). They dated, became engaged and were joined in marriage at St. Matthew on October 12, 1963. The first of their four children, Emily Beth came on the scene with James Schuyler, Amy Louise and Timothy West all in under a five-year span.
The family moved to Raleigh, NC in 1978 where Jim joined the faculty of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC with Janice soon continuing her medical career at Raleigh Community Hospital (now Duke Raleigh Hospital). She was later honored with the Dr. Frist Humanitarian Award, Employee of the Year, and took first place (twice)in the annual staff pie-baking contest. An additional specialty in mammography became a much-desired asset in her work at the hospital. Retiring from medical service in 2000, her love for children led her to teach in the pre-school for several years at St. Johns's Episcopal Church in Wake Forest.
Janice and Jim were blest to be the proud Grandparents of seven "precocious" girls (2) and boys (5)!
The family will gather to remember, give thanks for, and celebrate Janice's life at a later date.

Fondly sharing a lunchroom table with Janice and Joyce. Both girls were lovely, soft-spoken and had the most beautiful smile. Now...as the mother of twin daughters...I can understand that `twin thing´ they had going. Much sympathy to Janice´s family on their loss.

Dear Jim and Children, We are so sorry to hear of Jan's passing. You were the best neighbors when our families moved to Brookstone Court in 1978. Our children, Emily and Sheila, Tim and Mike (who shared the same birthdate), became good friends. We were so sorry to see you move. Our prayers and love are with you. God bless and help you through this sad time.

Jim, I know Janice had not been well for a long time but this is still a great loss for you and your children. Janice was a loving, kind, compassionate Christian lady. You will be in my prayers.
With love and fond memories,
