Jean Peters Obituary
March 19, 1929 - February 25, 2022
Durham, North Carolina - Jean Lumpkin Peters was born on March 19, 1929. Surrounded by her children and their spouses, she passed away on February 25, 2022, after a brief illness. She is survived by her daughters Cindy and Marian and spouse Tina, and son Jeff and spouse Yenchun; 2 grandchildren and their spouses; and, five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Peters III. Natives of Miami, FL, Jean and Tom raised their children in Florida until they moved to India as missionaries with the United Methodist Church, where they lived for 8 years. While Tom administered a 600-bed teaching hospital in northwest India, Jean created a warm and welcoming home for an international group of medical neighbors. Upon returning to the US in 1975, they moved to Durham, lived briefly in Rhode Island and South Carolina before returning to Durham upon Tom's retirement. They were residents of the Forest at Duke. Jean was an accomplished artist in watercolors and oils. No services are currently planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Partnership Uganda, www.partnershipugandainc.org or a charity of your choice. The family was assisted by Cremation Society of NC.

I´m so sorry I did not know Jean died last February until well after the fact. I shall ALWAYS remember with love the Peters family and the great times shared in Mussoorie or Ludhiana, and even NC. I´m sorry to have lost contact with Marian or even Cindi and wish one of them would contact me.

I saw your mom's name in the recent Woodstock publication of donations and thought I'd try to reconnect. I looked her name up in Durham and was most surprised to see she died in February. I'm so sorry that opportunity to rehash days in India has gone. I also had tried some months ago to call Marian whose last address and number was in Boone, NC, but had no response. I would like to get back in touch with her as we too have lost contact over the years. Please give me some way I can contact either Marian or Cindy. I'm so sorry for their loss.
