To the Schilawski Kids,

I'm not sure why, but I have had your mom on my mind so much in the past couple of months. Somewhat on a whim I decided to see if I could find out anything about her - knowing that she would most certainly be getting up in age. I was so sad to see her obituary and also to see that she passed away only a couple of months ago. She was a such great person and I treasure the brief period of time that she was a part of my life. She was an inspiration as I was training to become a teacher and I was so proud when I learned she was a Wake County School Board member after she retired from teaching. I know she will be greatly missed by all of you. You were blessed to have her as your mother. Wanda (Proctor) Hoover

Jean, "Mean Jean", :) She was a hoot... She was like a mama to me, she taught me everything I needed to know, to be the best teacher I could be. I love that woman so much. There are so many stories I could tell, but the one that comes to mind instantly, was when we were getting ready for the day, I was in her office going through the file cabinet, the phone rings, it was for me, she hands me the phone "And low and behold we were on the radio live. And then, that darn cabinet fell over on me, it was top heavy. I'm on the phone live radio, trying to talk, and Jean and I are restling to get the cabinet upright and secure again, laughing our butts off. And of course, the lady on the radio wants to know what is going on. We told her as we were fumbling with the phone and the cabinet. Needless to say, we were the joke of the day. Jean's favorite... next to "What's new and exciting" Bless her most precious soul, I Love You Jean !!! You will always be in my heart, and we will meet again...

I worked with Jean professionally for many years. She made such important and lasting contributions not only to the Wake County School System but to the entire early childhood community. I appreciate so much her interest in and support of Project Enlightenment. She was a wonderful lady who will long be remembered and missed. My condolences to the family and send wishes that your many special memories will be of comfort now and in the days ahead.

All of us at Dorcas Ministries are sad to hear of the transition of Jean. Jean was very active in one of our most important missions; providing childcare scholarships. I can remember Jean opening her home to us for meetings when we didn't have a space of our own. She certainly was one of the sheep from Matthew 25:40. May all of the family be blessed with fond memories.
