John McLean Obituary

Mr. John Luther McLean, 92, a resident of Lumberton, NC, died Monday afternoon, April 19, 2004 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.
He was born in Maxton, NC on February 19, 1912; a son of the late Malcolm Purcell and Almena Currie McLean.
Mr. McLean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was Elder Emeritus, and involved in all aspects of the church. He was owner and operator of Protective Agency, Inc. A lifelong leader in his community, Mr. McLean supported numerous charitable and civic organizations and served on many community boards and agencies.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Samuel P. Warner officiating. Interment will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery under the direction of Biggs Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife, Isabelle Gray McLean; a son, John Purcell McLean and wife, Ellen of Lumberton; three daughters, Marianna Gray McLean of Atlanta, GA, Marshall McLean Daniel and husband, Max of Charlotte, and Elisabeth Pendleton McLean of Sullivan's Island, SC; three sisters, Mary Virginia McFayden and Clara Lee McLean both of Pinehurst, NC and Margaret McLean Newberry of Lumberton, NC; seven grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and a long-time family friend, Hazel Kennedy of Lumberton.
