John Thomas Obituary

John "JT" Thomas

Raleigh

John "JT" Thomas, 54, of Raleigh, NC died on October 19, 2015 after a courageous, 18-month battle with brain cancer. John was born on June 17, 1961 in Newton, MA and grew up in Natick, MA. After graduating from Natick High School and attending Wentworth Institute of Technology for two years, he moved to Charlotte, NC to attend the UNCC School of Architecture. In 1987 he began his 27-year career with MBAJ Architecture, now Boomerang Design. In 1992 he married Kelly Evans. They relocated to Raleigh in 1996 so John could open a new MBAJ office where he was Managing Principal.

John will be missed by so many who knew and loved him. He had a knack of putting people at ease, and never knew a stranger. He was genuinely kind, had a wonderful sense of humor, a massive silly streak, and a positive spirit that prevailed throughout his battle. He loved a good game of golf and cheering for the NE Patriots, but his family was his heart and soul. He was a hands on, incredibly-involved dad who never missed an event or an opportunity to help with his kid's interests and activities.

John is survived by his wife of 23 years Kelly Thomas; daughter Laura (swee' pea) and son Josh (little buddy); mother Alice M. Thomas of Wareham, MA; brother Stephen Thomas and wife Norma of Dover Foxcroft, ME, brother Patrick Thomas of Natick, MA, sister Marilyn Tompkins and husband Michael of Medway, MA and brother Andrew Thomas of Worcester, MA; nephew Brendan Tompkins; and nieces Krislyn & Meaghan Tompkins, Marielle, Alisha, and Jacklyn Thomas. He is predeceased by his father John F. Thomas and grandmother Alice Rousseau.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 2:00pm with reception to follow at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7506 Falls of Neuse Rd, Raleigh, NC. Memorial gifts can be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Youth Missions or Wakefield Band Boosters Financial Aid Fund, 2200 Wakefield Pines Dr., Raleigh, NC 27614.

I had just graduated from high school that June of 1961 when my dear nephew, John, was born. He was my first nephew out of an eventual 17 and was very special. He was a wonderful little boy who became an amazing man.
Continued condolences to Kelly, Laura, Joshua, Alice and the siblings on the fourth anniversary of his untimely passing.
Love,
Aunt Ellen and Uncle Jim
