Joseph Benner Obituary

Mr. Joseph A. Benner, Jr., 76, died Monday, May 21, 2007.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Trinity Baptist Church on Six Forks Road in Raleigh.
Mr. Benner was born on September 16, 1930, in Allentown, PA and grew up in Barberton, OH. He graduated from The University of Miami in Florida. He was a visionary in the Miami Real Estate Market. He was instrumental in developing Calder Race Track and The Country Club of Miami. He played a key role in building the Joe Robbie Stadium (now Pro Player Stadium) and developing the surrounding properties.
Surviving are: his wife, Louise Dorn Benner; four daughters, Martha Hokayem and her husband, George Hokayem of Gainesville, GA, Anne Davis and her husband, Jim Davis of Columbia, SC, Sarah Scott and her husband, George Scott of Swannanoa, NC, Alice Spickard and her husband, David Spickard of Raleigh.
He was very proud of his 13 grandchildren, Janna, Jessa, Louis, and David Hokayem, James, Sarah, and Michael Davis, Sam and Sophie Scott, Ben, Scott, Meg, and Claire Spickard.

Dear Louise and Family
We join so many who remember Joe in the fondest of ways. My father and mother introduced me years ago to your husband, dad and grandfather. Knowing him was certainly a highlight of my rememberance to an era gone by.
