Joseph Charles Brent, Jr
March 19, 1964 - December 22, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - Joseph Charles "JC" "Joe" Brent, Jr. peacefully passed away after a couple of years of illness at age 57 on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. His wife Selené was at his side. JC was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school. His military duties took him around the world and eventually landed him at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point located in Havelock, North Carolina. Three days after leaving the military, he began his training at the Raleigh Police Academy. He served as a Raleigh police officer for over seven years before briefly exploring his entrepreneurial skills as the owner of Suds Coin Laundromat in Youngsville, North Carolina.
JC always had a spirit of helping others and decided to embark on a new career in the medical field. He received his Associate Degree in nursing from Durham Technical Community College and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. For 21 years, JC worked in various roles: Registered Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse, HEDIS Nurse, Certified Case Manager, Nurse Supervisor, and Director of Quality Improvement Case Management and Risk Management.
JC firmly believed that education was the key to success. As he worked full-time as a police officer, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University. In 2009 while working as a nurse, he completed his Master of Business Administration from Pfeiffer University. He also completed several certifications that helped him advance his career.
When it came to doing it his way, JC lived life to the fullest. He was an avid chess player early in life. While his health permitted, he loved golfing, hunting, boating, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles. His true passion was flying. He made his first solo flight in 2011 and made every effort to fly his Piper Cherokee as often as time would allow. He was a genius of music, and he could name artists or songs regardless of the genre after hearing just a few notes. He enjoyed taking care of his yard in his later years and hanging out in his man-cave.
In the community, JC was found lending a hand to others. As a young man, he found time to become a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and a Freemason. It was nothing for him to pick up someone in the rain at the bus stop and give them a ride. He loved giving the neighbor kids a ride on his motorcycle or teaching them about his boat. Many may not have understood his ways, but he was a loving guy who wanted the best for everyone.
JC is survived by his wife, Selené; his sister, Amanda Woods (Gregory) of Houston, TX; his brother, Malcolm Brent (Yolanda) of Slidell, LA; his brother, Byron Herbert of Dallas, TX; his brother Leonard Jack of New Orleans, LA; and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will honor JC by having his ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean.
