April 15, 1928 – January 5, 2014

Raleigh

Joseph "Joe" LaCroix, 85, went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 5, 2014 after a period of declining health. He went peaceably in his sleep at Elmcroft Assisted Living in North Raleigh, NC. Born April 15, 1928 in Bennington, Vermont, he moved to North Carolina in his retirement with his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty".

Joe was one of nine children born to Joseph Salvadore LaCroix and Mildred Lenore Wood LaCroix. Upon graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948, and graduated in 1950 from Becker Junior College, Worcester, Massachusetts with a degree in accounting. Joe and Betty met in Bennington, Vermont and were married for over 56 years until Betty's death in 2009. For many years, Joe was employed by the United States Postal Service, a career of which he was very proud. He loved his family, taking care of his home and small garden, and reading the newspaper. Joe was of the Roman Catholic faith, which was a very important part of his life.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and three of his sisters. He is survived by three sisters, Ann LaCroix Moore of Florida, Doris LaCroix Bevis of California, and Alice "Mimi" LaCroix Woodard of Vermont, and two brothers, Gerald LaCroix of Florida, Gordon LaCroix of Arizona, and several nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by his children, Marta LaCroix Page of Cohoes, NY; Geoffrey LaCroix and wife Rose Ann LaCroix of Whitesboro, NY; Timothy LaCroix and wife Karol LaCroix of Cary, NC, and one grandchild, Samuel LaCroix of Cary, NC.

The family expresses its tremendous gratitude to Hospice of Wake County for the warm support of Joseph in his last few months and to the staff of Elmcroft of Northridge, which was Joseph's home for almost 11 Years.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, VT.
