Julia Butler Capps, 76, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2016.

She was born in Whiteville, NC to the late David Lennon Butler, Sr. and Annie Miller Butler (Nickleson). After graduation from Whiteville High School, Julie moved to Raleigh and worked at First Citizens Bank. She met Tony at North Carolina State University and soon married and moved to Smithfield. She worked for years at Shallcross. She retired from the Department of Mental Health.

Julie is preceded in death by her husband Tony Capps, a brother David Lennon Butler, Jr., and a sister Linda Butler Edwards.

She is survived by two adored sons: Sam Capps and wife Jen of Cleveland, OH, Michael Capps and wife Michelle of Smithfield, seven grandchildren, Reagan Capps, Amya Capps, Luke Capps, Sammy Capps, Mackenzie Weinhagen, Hailey Boyette, Jaydan Boyette. Also by her beloved WHS Class of 1959 – whose members have remained close and continue to meet for lunch in Whiteville every 3 months to this day.

A visitation will be held 10:00am Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third Street, Smithfield, NC 27577. A Memorial Service Celebration will immediately follow at 11:00am.

Flowers may be sent to First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield.
