June Campbell Obituary
June Elizabeth Kay Campbell, born August 19, 1925 in Wilmington, North Carolina was the seventh child of the late Dr. John Walcott Kay and the late Willie Otey Kay.
She was educated in the Raleigh Public Schools, graduating from Washington High School in 1944. She attended Shaw University and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
On January 1, 1946, she married Ralph Campbell and to this union were born four children: Ralph Jr., Mildred, Bill and Eddie. Ralph Sr. and a granddaughter, Candice Campbell, preceded her in death.
June was a life-long member of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church were she served faithfully on the Altar Guild, sewing many of the altar hangings and mending many of the Rector's vestments; a member of the Absalom Jones Prayer Guild; a member of the Omega Choir; volunteer for Meals on Wheels; member of the Gay Matrons; life member of RWCA; former member of the Daughters of Isis, the Links, Inc., Jack & Jill of America, Inc. and Chums, Inc.
She worked for 31 years as an Administrative Secretary at Saint Augustine's College, retiring in February, 1992 to take care of her ailing mother.
Survived by four children, Ralph Campbell Jr., Mildred Campbell Christmas, William Craig Campbell (Sharon) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Edwin John Campbell Sr. (Theresa); one sister, Mrs. Gloria Kay Greene (Nelson) of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Julia Barzey (George) of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, June Elizabeth Christmas, William Ralph Campbell, Christina Lynn Campbell, Edwin John Campbell Jr., Rachel Leigh Campbell; many nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
The Campbell family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to all family and friends for their prayers and many acts of kindness during the recent illness of our mother and especially to the staff of Duke Cancer Clinic at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital.
