Kathy Harris Obituary

Kathy Harris, 90, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Born on September 26, 1934, in Quire Quire, Venezuela, Kathy carried with her a lifelong love of learning and nature that shaped both her personal and professional life. She dedicated her career to education as a school librarian, nurturing generations of young readers and fostering a deep appreciation for literature and discovery.

Kathy's passion for the outdoors was equally enduring. As an advocate and enthusiast of natural spaces, she found joy and purpose in preserving the beauty of the environment around her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger. Kathy is remembered by her daughter Laura (Glenn Shearer), her son Tod (Jane Harris), and her grandchildren Rachel Blanton and Sarah Harris. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Harrison and Maggie Blanton. She is also survived by her brother Bill Mygdal and his family.

A Celebration of Life, followed by a reception, will be held on October 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Carol Woods Retirement Community Assembly Hall, 750 Weaver Dairy Road.

Memorial gifts may be made in Kathy's honor to The Eno River Association or Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library.
