Letha Ezzell Yancey of Wendell, NC entered Heaven from Hospice of Wake County's Hospice Home April 15, 2011.
Letha was born in Clinton, NC on October 5, 1930. She married Roy A. Yancey at Rowan Baptist Church in Clinton April 9, 1950. Later, they moved to Kinston, NC where she continued to be active in her church and community. The family moved to Wendell, NC in 1968 and eventually opened Yancey Furniture. She touched the lives of people of all ages as she shared her love of her Savior and the Bible through various churches. She also volunteered with Hospice, helping provide the compassionate and dignified end-of-life care that is at the root of the organization as well as educating groups and corporations about their work.
Letha was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Alton Yancey; her parents, Ira Addison Ezzell and Ida Brafford Ezzell; her stepmother, Minnie Wynn Burgess Ezzell and a stepsister, Iris Airlene Vann. Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, June Yancey Baker and Craig Baker of Wendell; LeAnn Yancey Mizeski and Scott Mizeski of Clinton; grandchildren, Katherine-Anne Baker Zimmerman and husband, Justin Zimmerman of Knightdale; Emily Grey Baker and Lara Elizabeth Baker, both of Wendell; Marc Alan Schaub, Jr. and wife Carrie Schaub of Advance; Dean Yancey Schaub and wife Olivia Schaub of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; two sisters, Lucille Ezzell Yancey of Clinton and Iris Ezzell Parker and husband Julius Parker of Newton Grove, two stepsisters, Frances Peterson and Joyce Lane both of Clinton; and many dearly loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff and healthcare providers at Hospice of Wake County, all of whom have provided excellent loving and professional assistance.
Rev. Tom Bodkin of Raleigh will lead A Celebration of the Life of Letha Yancey April 23 at 10:00 am at Wendell Baptist Church? 3651 Wendell Blvd., Wendell, NC 27591. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
As a final act of love and hope for future generations, Letha chose to make an anatomical donation to East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, Letha's expressed wish is that memorial contributions for the benefit of many be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
