Madeline and I wish we could be there to be part of the celebration of our Mr. Lewis' life. He was our favorite friend in Beaufort, and one of my favorite people in this life. We were so honored when Lewis asked us to write reviews for his amazing work of literary and graphic art, Mobey. I used to love looking out my dining room window in Beaufort to see Mr. Lewis standing by our Pickett fence after one of his walks. Mad and I would head outside and we'd talk rabbits and art and the excitement and news and hope surrounding Mobey, and all things Beaufort. He was such a wonderful friend and grandfather figure to Madeline. We had recently reconnected after Mad and I moved to West Virginia in 2018. We had several recent, lovely phone conversations and for that, I am grateful. Madeline played her harp over the phone for Lewis too, and I believe he truly enjoyed that. We miss him so, and were looking forward to seeing him in the summertime. Lewis was a rare soul, indeed: always positive, warm, funny, laughing always, kind and gentle and genuine. And dare I leave out brilliant. I admired Lewis in so many ways and respected his appreciation and gratefulness for this life. Lewis often feared of becoming a burden, but in rebuttal, I told Lewis that he was a Treasure, in one of our last couple of conversations. I can't think of a more inclusive word to capture the essence of Lewis. Because in our eyes, and the eyes and hearts of many, Mr. Lewis was a Teasure, in every sense of the word. He is so profoundly missed.
