Linda Stokes Obituary

Linda Sue Russell Stokes

March 16, 1941 - August 15, 2019

Raleigh

Linda Sue Russell Stokes traded her earthy existence for eternal peace on August 15, 2019 in her home surrounded by family.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life, mourn her loss, and emulate her character, her husband, Andy Stokes, her son, E. Andrew Stokes III, and wife, Michelle; daughter, Courtney Stokes Hand and husband, Ed; brother, Ken Russell and wife, Leesa; sister-in-law, Venice Russell; nephews, Ryan Russell, Ken Thomas Russell, Bowen Russell; niece, Kerry Rickman and husband Mike; their children Carly, Sam and Juliana. Also mourning is her tuxedo adorned cat, "The Dude".

Linda was a summa cum laude graduate of Birmingham Southern College and San Jose State University and a passionate life long learner.

She was a long time teacher in both California and New York. After moving to North Carolina, she decided to pursue a second career and worked in real estate for many years.

An avid tennis player and fan, she spent countless hours either on the court or cheering on her favorite players.

She was born in Hartsville, SC, but relocated to Panama City, FL where she met her husband of 58 years. Together, they traveled the world and lived for several years in Hong Kong before retiring full time in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Heartland Hospice, who did an amazing job making her last days as comfortable as possible. HeartlandHospiceFund.org/Donate

Arrangements are still being finalized and will be announced later.

Dear Andy, Christie and George Hamilton sent Linda's obituary this morning. It made me so sad.

Albeit many years since we were all friends in Yorktown Heights, New York I have such fond memories of you and Linda. It sounds as though you have a wonderful family and have had a wonderful life together. For that I am happy.

The very best to you and my deepest condolences.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Andy and the family with the passing of Linda Sue. She was a great lady,
a pleasure to know, play tennis with, bridge, and share an occasional nightcap. When people ask what the
University of Alabama is noted for, most reply "football." The Stoke's many, many, friends would answer
"Andy and Linda Sue." Truly their marriage was made in equal parts in heaven and in Tuscaloosa. Hang in
there Andy, Linda Sue is watching you.

Linda came to me over a year ago, and then back every week to get her hair done. She was a favorite. So sweet, and always made good conversation. I will miss our Thursday mornings together.
My condolences to her family. And thank you Courtney for your kind words.

We spent many hours with Linda and Andy at Moonspinners in PCB talking politics in the pool, toasting the sunset with a drink and our usual toast Good night old friend, thanks for a beautiful day, we will see you in the morning. And then on Saturday night listening to Linda sound out with ROLL TIDE every time Alabama football team would score. We could hear her throughout the entire complex. We had so much fun with the Stokes and will forever remember Linda and Andy. May God hold Linda in the hollow of His hand, near to His heart, forever. Diana and Bob Schaefer, Cincinnati, Ohio

I was so sorry to hear about Mrs. Stokes' passing. I have very fond memories of her as her daughter Courtney and I navigated high school years! Enjoyed their pool and winter nights by the cozy fire. My deepest sympathies to her family.

SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO ANDY AND ALL THE FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF LINDA. WHEN THE WORD ''LADY '' WAS CREATED, IT WAS MEANT FOR LINDA. WE WILL MISS LINDA ON THIS EARTHLY WORLD, BUT WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEING HER AGAIN IN GOD'S HOLY KINGDOM. BLESSINGS TO THE FAMILY.
