Margaret Dickerman Obituary

Margaret Gold Swindell Dickerman
November 02, 1922 - September 4, 2011
Wilson
Margaret Gold Swindell Dickerman, 88, an important figure in the history of The Wilson Times and mother of Publisher Morgan Paul Dickerman III, died peacefully Sunday morning.
She lived in Florida in recent years with daughter Margaret Dickerman Dempsey, who was at her side when she passed away. Mrs. Dickerman leaves behind a deep legacy and newspaper heritage with the still family-owned Times newspaper now run by Morgan Dickerman.
Mrs. Dickerman is survived by three daughters, Sarah Dickerman Evans, Alice Dickerman Adams and husband Don, and Margaret Dickerman Dempsey; son Morgan Paul Dickerman III and wife Rosa, three grandsons, Robert Paul Evans, Donald Wayne Evans and wife Kari, and Morgan Paul Dickerman IV; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Cox Evans and Jordan Paul Evans.
The family will receive friends at 906 Nash St. N., from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Dickerman was the granddaughter of one publisher, daughter of another and mother of a third. Her life spans most of the history of The Wilson Times. Her grandfather, John Gold, founded The Wilson Times, a weekly publication, in 1896, using printing equipment owned by his father, Elder P.D. Gold, a Primitive Baptist minister and publisher of a church publication, Zion's Landmark. The paper went daily in 1902. Her mother, Elizabeth Swindell, was a legendary and beloved editor and publisher of the newspaper. Mrs. Dickerman's husband, Morgan Paul Dickerman II, served as associate publisher from 1956 until his death in 1974. Morgan Paul Dickerman III grew up in the business and was named publisher following his grandmother's death in 1983.

My prayers and sympathy to Margaret's family. I have met Morgan but not the rest of the family. I am a descendant of Dr. Samuel Dudley (through his son Augustus Dudley) and wish I could have known your family through the years.
