Upon arriving in Goldsboro today I learned of the passing of Mary Martin. Words cannot express the sadness I feel! What a beautiful, caring, and giving lady she was! My mother had the privilege of working as an administrative assistant to Ed Borden for fifteen plus years before her retirement. She came to love Mary Martin beyond words. I too shared a love for her in association with the Seyboro Sharks swim team. My son and Martha were teammates and we spent many hours together. My love and prayers are with all the Borden family in their tremendous loss! You have so many beautiful memories to sustain you!

Some of my earliest memories at the YMCA are of Mary Martin swimming in the pool-she truly loved it. During my YMCA life for the past 27 years, I always looked up to her and was amazed at all of the lives she impacted. I also had the pleasure of serving on the Wayne Uplift Board of Directors. I would bring her some chicken salad from a little grill in my town and she loved it. A few times during her illness, I was able to send chicken salad with Lee for her, knowing that would be a small joy for her. I will miss her and feel honored to have known her. Mr. Ed, Lee and the rest of the family, I will be praying for you all in the next days, weeks and months to come. God bless you all.

On behalf of the Goldsboro Family YMCA staff, members and program participants, we are forever grateful for your drive and determination that allowed the residents of Wayne County and surrounding areas to be able to have a YMCA. For 31 years now, we have been impacting lives on a daily basis~and that was made possible because of you. Rest in peace Mary Martin. Our thoughts and prayers will be with Ed and the family for weeks and months to come. May God comfort you all during this difficult time. Kriquette Davis, Associate Executive Director, Goldsboro Family YMCA.
