Melvin Ellis Obituary
September 23, 1927 - December 24, 2021
Stem , North Carolina - Melvin James (Tom) Ellis, Jr passed away on December 24, 2021. He was preceded by his wife off 55 years, Daphine Crumpler Ellis. He was also preceded by his parents, Melvin J Ellis, Sr and Hallie S. Ellis; two brothers, Nelson and Billy; and two sisters, Edna Ellis Gill and Joyce Ellis Ball. He is survived by his son, Melvin J. "Jim" Ellis, III; his daughter, Catherine Perera Shaw; three grandchildren, Eric Perera, Mindy Shaw Terry and Vin Shaw; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was a farmer, a businessman, a veteran and an elder in the Geneva Presbyterian Church.
He retired from N.C. Farm Bureau Insurance in 1989 after a long and successful career. He also served 32 years as a Director of the Federal Land Bank and the Production Credit Association, which provided loans to farmers.
A graveside service will be held at Geneva Presbyterian Church at 4620 Culbreth Road, Oxford, NC; located between Stem and Berea. The serve will be performed by Pastor James Shelley and will occur on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 2:00 pm with a visitation after the service.
Donation are welcomed and may be made to Geneve Presbyterian Church, Cemetery Fund in care of Jeff Stevenson.
The family will accept friends at Geneva Church Fellowship Hall following the service. Refreshments will be served inside and outside.
