Michael Deal Simpson, 49, died on August 19, 2012 in Philadelphia after several years of poor health.
Mike was born in Roanoke, Virginia on November 30, 1962 to the late Pat and Charles Simpson. The small family quickly came to their senses and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina a year later.
While living in Raleigh, Mike attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens Drive High School, and was active in several service organizations. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1986 with a BA in English. While at NCSU he was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, the University Choir, the Men's Glee Club, and he worked at the radio station, WKNC. He remained a rabid Wolfpack fan throughout his life. He moved back to Virginia for a short time after graduating. He then moved to Hickory, North Carolina so he could be closer to his grandmother, Eunice ("Honey") Deal. He worked at the Hickory Daily Record and was a member of a local barbershop quartet. He moved to Grapevine, Texas to marry the love of his life, Alicia Carla Longstreet. Mike and Alicia lived in Michigan for a brief time and finally moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they both attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Philadelphia. Mike finished his Master of Arts in Religion this past May. While at LTSP, Mike was an active member of the Harmony Society.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Charles Meetze Simpson; and mother, Patricia Deal Simpson.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia Carla Simpson, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and his sister, Trisha D. Simpson, of Raleigh, North Carolina.
A Memorial Service is being held in Philadelphia on Monday, August 27. Trisha will bring Mike home to Raleigh and his ashes will be inurned in Holy Trinity's columbarium. A second Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, September 6 at Holy Trinity, 2723 Clark Avenue, Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, please simply call your loved ones and tell them how special they are and that you love them.
