Mildred Drum Obituary
Born June 7, 1909 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late David Sylvanus ""Pop"" Drum and Bessie Lee Hewitt Drum. She graduated from Ball's Creek High School in 1926 and attended Greensboro College the following year. Mildred completed her college education at Lenoir-Rhyne graduating in 1931 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and French.
After completing her college education, she worked for a time as a bookkeeper for her father's business, Drum Funeral Home in Conover. Mildred then went to work as secretary and bookkeeper for Mrs. Roth Campbell with Catawba County's Home Demonstration Agency before beginning her life career around 1938 as receptionist and secretary for Shuford Mills in Hickory until her retirement in the late 1970's.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Nathan Drum. Survivorsinclude: 2 sisters and a brother-in-law; Zona Mae Drum Weaver of Conover, Mary Catherine Drum Surratt and Bob G. Surratt of Raleigh, Nieces and Nephews; Vickey Lee Drum Best of Longmont, CO, Joaleen Drum Gosnell of Lyons, CO, Caroline Elizabeth WeaverKeller of Conover, NC, Julie Elizabeth Surratt Cable of Apex, Mary Joannie Surratt Garrity of Apex, Jane Rogers Weaver Fletcher of New York City, Charles David Drum of Los Angeles, CA, James Edward Weaver, Jr. of Conover, Robert David Weaver of Carrboro, Steven Gary Surratt of Goldsboro, NC, Johnathan Drum Weaver of Nebo, Laura Surratt Cox of Raleigh.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 30, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Conover. The Revs. Kerry Fralic, DixonAdams, and Lutz Keller will officiate and burial will be in Conover City Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church 30minutes prior to the service. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive Saturday, June 30, 2001 from12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.

The Drum Family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
