Myrtle Calhoun Obituary

Myrtle Perry Calhoun
August 16, 1940 - January 14, 2021
Clayton, North Carolina - Myrtle Perry Calhoun, 80, passed away peacefully in her home on January 14, 2021 under the care of Transitions LifeCare. Born on August 16, 1940 in Watauga County, NC; she was the daughter of the late Blanco Perry and Genevieve Carpenter Perry.
Married 61 years to W. Chester Calhoun, Myrtle was a loving wife, mother and friend to all. She was an active member for over 30 years at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church (known for her Banana Pudding at any church function), a member for over 20 years with the Raleigh HOG Chapter, and enjoyed her flowers. Most of all though -- she loved her time with family.
She is survived by her husband: Chester; daughter: Rita Edwards and husband David, of Wake Forest; son: Craig Calhoun, of Raleigh; her treasured granddaughter: Tally Calhoun; by her siblings: Marsha Thomas and husband William, of Zionville, NC and Keith Perry and wife Lyndel, of Blowing Rock, NC; and by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Including her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her daughter: Tracy Lea Calhoun in 1980 and siblings: Joe Perry (his late wife Barbara), Bill Perry and Theda Lail.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 19th at 11 am at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. For those unable to attend, the service will be recorded and posted afterwards to the Facebook Page of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church or Transitions LifeCare.

Hi! My name is Stephanie McLawhorn and my mothers name is Susan Lynn Weaver (now Susan Prince). I was spending time with her today and she often talks about your family during her childhood and her friendship with Rita. While looking online for her, I came across this and my mom was sadden to hear of your loss. She said “you were the family she didn’t have at home” and she cried. She told me many wonderful stories. And the heartbreak of losing Tracy also, but that your mom used that to be an advocate for schools having experienced bus drivers for other children. So amazing! May God comfort you and bring you and your family peace.

You were a wonderful friend. Sylvia and I enjoyed our lunches with you and Chester on Sundays at Bo’s. Being around you always was a time of laughter and great stories. Thank you for just being YOU!!
