Nancy Brame Obituary
Nancy Brame
January 18, 1931 - September 11, 2023
Winston-Salem, North Carolina - Nancy Brame, fondly known as Gmom to her many friends and family members, was born in Cheriton, VA to Paul and Gale Hounshell. Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed throughout the state and region.
In addition to her dedication to raising her children, she frequently volunteered for Meals on Wheels and The Nearly New Shoppe, a thrift store run by the Duke Medical Auxiliary which benefited those in need.
Furthermore, she and Bob found time for trips to Europe with each of her grandchildren and was always available to enjoy time with her family and friends. She loved doing needlework, tennis with family, collecting seashells on the beach, and reading. In her last years, she enjoyed time with her friends at Homestead Hills Retirement Community.
Nancy got her nursing degree from the Medical College of Virginia. After working as a nurse for several years, she found the love of her life, Bob, with whom she spent the next 60 years prior to his death. She put her career on hold to focus on providing a wonderful childhood for her three children.
In later years, she was just as committed to being a positive influence and role model in her grandchildren's lives. Nancy was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity and never hesitated to express exactly what she thought. Nancy was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Nancy was one of two children, and is survived by her children Griff Brame and Karen Graham (Don), her grandchildren Andrew, Emily, and Will Brame; Dean (Madison), Jenny and Matt Graham; Chris Colvin (Jess); and Holly Herring (Forbes). In addition she will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care of the medical personnel at Forsyth Medical Center who cared for Nancy in her last days, particularly those in the Palliative Care Unit.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy's honor to the Meals on Wheels of Winston Salem at 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105; the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina at 3655 Reed St., Winston Salem, NC, 27107; or Clemmons Presbyterian Church at 3930 Clemmons Rd, Clemmons, NC, 27012.
