Nancy Edmunds Hannah

Greensboro, North Carolina - Nancy Edmunds Hannah, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Well Spring Retirement Community. The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation for everyone at Well Spring, especially the staff and caregivers in Willow Way and Sycamore Square.
Nancy expressed her wishes for her Witness to the Resurrection service and on July 9, 2021, at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, that service will be held. Although many COVID restrictions have been lifted, the church requires masking at the church. Her family requests that those who knew and loved Nancy please join us to celebrate her life.
Nancy was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on December 6, 1925. She was the daughter of Thomas Barksdale Edmunds and Isabel Bouldin Edmunds. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg before matriculating at North Carolina Woman's College (now UNCG). Nancy graduated from WC in 1946 with a degree in Sociology.
On December 28, 1946, Nancy married Walter Lewis Hannah and the couple moved to Lexington, Virginia where she taught for one year before taking a position assisting with student career testing at Washington & Lee University. Walter and Nancy moved to Raleigh, NC in February 1950 where they became active in White Memorial Presbyterian Church, then in 1953, they moved to Greensboro.
Nancy was a dedicated and active member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Ruling Elder and President of the Women of the Church. She was a leader and Bible moderator in the church's circle program for years. She chaired the Worship Committee and World Missions and served on numerous other committees through the years taking special pleasure in serving as a member of the pastor nominating committee which called Dr. Charles Reckard. She was also very active in the work of both Orange and Salem Presbyteries and the Synod of North Carolina.
Nancy was an active member of the Greensboro Junior League and later as a Sustaining Member of that organization. She served on several community boards including those of the Central YMCA, the Volunteer Action Center and Retired Senior Volunteer Program, as well as the TB Association. She remained an active and devoted alumna of UNCG throughout her life serving on commencement and reunion committees and as a member of the Friends of the Library.
Nancy is survived by two children, son, Walter Lewis Hannah, Jr. (Pat) and daughter, Nan E. Hannah, as well as two grandsons, Patrick Tyler Hannah (Maddy) and Lewis Alexander Hannah (Liz), and three beautiful great-granddaughters, Olivia Maria, Sofia Anne and Eleanor Kate. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Walter L. Hannah, and her sisters, Isabel Edmunds Gillespie and Jane Edmunds Stephenson.
