Patricia Duffy Obituary

Patricia Ann Duffy of Cary, North Carolina passed quietly into eternal peace on Friday, June 4, 2010.
Patricia was born July 21, 1947 in Carroll, Iowa the eldest of eight children. Her childhood years were spent in Omaha, Nebraska where she attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Mercy High School. During that time Pat excelled in debate and participated in Junior Achievement. Patricia then attended Creighton University in Omaha and graduated in three years with majors in both English and History. After receiving a Fellowship to attend Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas Pat received a Masters degree in Education in only twelve months. During the college years Pat enjoyed sorority functions and playing bridge. After twelve years of employment with IBM Pat attended the New York Law School and participated in the Law Review. Upon being awarded a Jurist Doctorate in Law Patricia passed the State Bar exams in New York, New Jersey, Arizona and North Carolina. Pat practiced law in Tucson, Arizona and most recently was employed for five years as a Deputy Attorney General for the Attorney General’s Office of the State of North Carolina until her retirement due to a medical condition.
Patty enjoyed reading about American History especially biographies of the Presidents and publications about the American Revolution. Patty was always intrigued with constitutional law and had clerked at one time for a State Supreme Court Judge especially loved to discuss politics from her liberal democratic point of view. Patty’s other hobbies included needlepoint, gardening and current events.
Patricia was predeceased by her father, John Joseph Duffy and is survived by her mother, Mary Margaret Regan Duffy of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by her seven brothers and sisters, Maureen Duffy Williams and her husband, Harold (Willie) Williams, of N.C., Sheila Duffy of Santa Barbara, CA., John Duffy, David Duffy, Dennis Duffy of Tucson, AZ., Elaine Duffy of Peoria, IL and Eileen Duffy of Chandler, AZ. She is also survived by her nephew, Colin Lorenz of Chandler, AZ. and her dear friends, Paul and Roberta Glover of Durham, N.C.
Pat’s family and friends that loved her will miss her very much especially her bright mind, stimulating conversation, quick wit and infectious laugher. Rest in peace Patty.

I remember Pat fondly from my years of working with her at the Attorney General's office. She was a very fine person and I really missed her when she left and have thought of her often.
