Phillip Zook Obituary

Phillip Zook

April 12, 1956-March 23, 2014

Sparks, NV

Phillip Zook died at home in Sparks, NV, with his family at his side. As an architect and accessibility expert, Phill touched the lives of people across the country. Although he spent the last several years living and working in Nevada, Phill had an affinity for the East Coast, with particular fondness for his many happy years in Boston, MA, Carrboro, NC, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Phill is survived by his wife, Kate; his daughters Hallie (Austin) Ribelin, Ridley Zook, Meghan (Alex) Reed, and Jessica Copeland; two grandsons; mother Gerry Zook; and siblings Martin Zook, Martha Spinhirne, and Byron Zook and their families. The family will celebrate Phill's life by planting his garden in the spring.

I had the good fortune to have work with Phil on several projects. I am grateful to him for involving me in his efforts, and for the knowledge and insights that I gained and of course all the fresh eggs. Phil was a unique individual, a defender of the civil rights of people with disabilities, willing to tell it like it is, who used his creativity to make this place better world. I will always have a fond memories of our times together in North Carolina before we both moved on to other places and phases of our lives. Phil will live on in many ways including all the places across this country that now more accessible for everyone because of his life.

I wish his family all the best that can be at this difficult time.

Thinking of Phil's family at this sad time. What a fun guy he was back in our Langley High School days. Great memories. Rest in Peace.

I worked with and admired Phill in a professional capacity. He was very well respected in his field, and a great help to me in my law practice. I was terribly saddened to hear of his illness and passing. I have his family in my thoughts, and wish you all peace and comfort in knowing how much he will be missed.

I vividly recall Phillip in high school. What a brightness he brought to the world even then. My condolences to his loved ones, how blessed you were to have him in your life though I don't envy the empty space his death must leave you with.
