Rebecca Tyrrell Obituary

Rebecca Reardon Tyrrell, 75, of Beaufort, North Carolina, died peacefully at home December 11, 2025.

There will be a celebration of Becky's life at a later date.

She was born March 18, 1950, the second child of Ken and Cynthia Reardon. Becky grew up in Durham and graduated from Duke University in 1972. In the waning hours of that same year, she and Ray Tyrrell were forever married, standing in front of the fireplace of the Reardon family home.

She began her career with Wake County Social Services. After she earned her master's degree from The UNC School of Social Work in 1981, she was employed by The Dorothea Dix Mental Hospital for over two decades.

Becky was kind and good, a lover of all creatures, and generous to all. She was a reader. Intelligent, articulate, and while not showy, her dry wit would be the highlight of many a book club meeting. She was the glue for our small family, the one to declare it time for a get together and the first to say, "I'll make the reservations." We teased her about obsessiveness, but we loved that she would do all the planning.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Tyrrell, brother, Michael Reardon, sister, Bonita Hunter and her husband, Chris.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Best Friends Animal Society, or The Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Foundation, Inc.
