Ripley Taylor Obituary

Ripley U. Taylor, 86, of Raleigh, died on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Rex Hospital. A native of Whitakers, NC he was born on June 1, 1918 to the late Gaston Wilder and Minnie Moore Taylor.
Ripley was a hard-working, dedicated and loving family man. He attended Trinity Baptist Church for morethan 20 years. For 46 years he was a restaurant owner and operator of small, family restaurants, the most recent of which wasthe Hamburger Hut. In 1941 he graduated from Wake Forest College, Wake Forest, NC with a degree in law. Following graduation,he served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was a radioman aboard the USS Detroit, a naval support ship.
Surviving are: his beloved wife of 51 years, Odelia Barber Taylor of the home; four children and their spouses, Sharon K. and LarryDean of Raleigh, Russell R. and Christy Taylor of Vilas, NC, Delia E. and Greg Brown of Mechanicsville, VA and Gregory W. and Barbara Taylor of Raleigh. Also surviving are: sister, Minnie V. Sabiston of Wake Forest, NC ; eight grandchildren, Courtney, Carey, Graham, Grayson, Hannah, Windham, Emma, and Summer Grace.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday,April 27, 2005 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hourprior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The Reverend Dr. Jeff Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 4815 Six Forks Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609 or to the Central YMCA, 1601 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
