Robert Henry Raper, 84, of Cary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at WakeMed Cary Hospital with his son, Mark, by his side.
He was born on November 30, 1933 in Raleigh to the late Herman and Ruby Raper. He was employed with Sears and Roebuck Co. as a mechanical engineer and supervisor for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a jack of all trades and was known for having the ablilty to fix anything. He was a long time member of Piney Plains United Church of Christ in Cary. He loved Nascar racing and listening to country music, in particularly, George Jones.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Francis and Lois; and his brother, Richard.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shelby; sons, Robert, Keith, and Mark; daughter, Angie; sister, Louise Barham; grandchildren, Jenna, Brandi, Amber, Brian, Jennifer, and Steven.
Robert's visitation will be Tuesday, May 22, from 6-8 PM, at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502. Robert's Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 23, 2 PM, at Piney Plains United Church of Christ, 2801 Piney Plains Road, Cary, NC 27511, with interment following at Historic Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Piney Plains United Church of Christ.

We have just found out about Bob passing. So sorry ! He was a good man !!!! Wish we had known; we would have sure tried to have been there. He was one of the best men we have ever known. RIP friend.
