Ronald Burke Obituary

Ronald Edward Burke

January 7, 1964 - April 4, 2024

Raleigh, North Carolina - Ronald "Ronnie" Edward Burke, a spirited and talented individual, was the son of the late Doris McLean Burke and Johnnie Edward Burke.

From his early days, Ronald exhibited an unparalleled zest for life and sports. He enjoyed participating in football, baseball, basketball, and track. Ronald was also a brilliant orator, winning oratorical contests at First Baptist Church, his spiritual home, and showcasing his talents across the state.

Ronald was a proud graduate of Athens Drive High School. He continued his educational journey at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology in just three years.

Professionally, Ronald carved out a career as a freelance sports photographer and sports apparel marketer. Ronald's love for sports was paralleled by his love for music, boasting an enviable album collection and participating in school choruses and bands.

Ronald's memory is cherished by his sister, Marcilynn Burke of Eugene, Oregon; his aunt, Inez J. McLean of Tuscumbia, AL; and a legion of cousins and friends who felt his impact deeply.

A celebration of Ronald's life will be held at Haywood Funeral Home, 2415 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC 27603, on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Viewing will begin at 1:30 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History at UNC-Chapel Hill.
