Roy Stanford Obituary

Dr. Roy Ellington Stanford Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026 at VHC Hospital in Arlington, Virginia.

Roy was born on March 21, 1932 in Winston-Salem, NC to parents Roy Ellington Stanford and Brenda Ireland Stanford. Roy grew up in Greensboro, graduated from the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary (now ODU), in Virginia, and earned his D.D.S. from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in 1958. Roy enjoyed a 46-year career as a Virginia dentist, founding 6 dental practices.

Roy had many close friends at both Congressional Country Club and Army Navy Country Club. He and his surviving wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) Webster Stanford, enjoyed tennis and travel. They spent many joyful years as 'snow birds' in the community of the World Tennis Center, Naples, FL.

Roy was passionate about coin and militaria collecting. He will also be remembered for his humor, compassion, and devotion to his wife Betsy for over 40 years.

Roy is survived by his wife Betsy and Michael & Nancy Stanford of Kenly, NC (Roy's brother and his wife). Roy leaves behind an extended family including James & Rhonda Leavitt, Ms. Susan Leavitt & Dr. Jon Andrus (Betsy's children & spouses), as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
