Chapel Hill
Mrs. Ruby Lee Barnes Simmons, 89, of Chapel Hill, NC, died Saturday, April 7, 2012. A native of Davidson County, Ruby was born daughter of the late Charlie Lewis & Addie Parish Barnes.
A devoted mother and loving grandmother, Ruby will always be remembered for the kindness she shown others, along with a fiery and independent spirit.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons is preceded in death by her brothers, Charley Barnes Jr., Olan Barnes, Henry Woodrow Barnes Sr.; and her sisters, Millie Pearce and Clara Cash.
Survivors include her sons, Donnie Lee Barnes Sr.,(Janet) & Warren Ray Barnes (Deborah) of Chapel Hill, NC; sister, Evelyn Barnes Chrismon (Douglas) of Gibsonville, NC; sister-in-law, Margie Barnes, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Donnie L. Barnes Jr., Lorie B. Burch, Lisa G. Barnes, Mickey B. Hicks, Tonya H. Parker, & Steven J. Hicks; and ten great-grandchildren.
A service to honor her life will be held 5:00PM, Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Lystra Baptist Church. The Rev. Tim Williford will be officiating.
