Mr. Sean Michael Pierrard, 19, beloved son of Monica Kelly Pierrard and John Pierrard, died unexpectedly at his home in Canton, NC.
Sean was born on May 17, 1997 in Bergen County, NJ. He was raised in New Bern, NC, where he enjoyed playing soccer. He relocated to Chapel Hill with his family, where he graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 2015. Upon his graduation, Sean had moved to the Asheville area, where he had just settled in Canton, NC.
In addition to his parents, Sean is survived by his brother, Robert, of Chapel Hill; grandparents, Sheila & Jim Kelly; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC, Father Scott McQue presiding. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass in the church Gathering Space.
Memorials in Sean's memory may be directed to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

I knew Sean from First ... he was my roommate. This still really hurts and I could do a lot of "what ifs." At the end of the day we were all just really devastated because Sean was a great guy. I will never forget him because his life and death were meaningful in my life. To the family: I can't possibly imagine your sense of loss ... I can only thank you for raising such a bright, funny and kind hearted guy.

I had the pleasure & privilege of working with Sean. We wasn't given the time to become as close of friends as we were on our way to becoming, & I was devestated to hear the tragic news of his passing! He was an awesome energetic guy in which our time together and his loss has had an impact on my life & will forever. I'm so very sorry for the loss in which his parents & family has had to endure. I'm by far no stranger to tragic loss especially recently with the sudden death of my own father. But no parent should have to lay a child to rest, and with myself being a father to 2 boys ages 4 & 2 years old, I can not possibly imagine the heart break you as Seans parents have & are still going thru. Sean was a fantastic young man & a great human being that the lessons and wisdom you as parents had taught him was very much evident! We all as adults make decisions & choices that pave the road for our journey thru life. As his family you folks did great raising Sean so never think otherwise! I wish I could of been blessed with more time with Sean to make even more memories but I will cherish every moment I was given with him for the rest of my own life no matter how long or short it may be. Cause none of us are promised tomorrow. Thank you for bringing such a great person into this world and allowing him to be able to be a part of my life. Once again you have my utmost sincere condolences. God Bless you all & Sean will undoubtedly be missed so much by you, me & many others I'm sure of!

Such a young man, still a boy really. I have wonderful memories of Sean, Robert, Shannon and Ryan playing together when they were young. The pain of losing a child is greater than my heart and mind can grasp. Monica, John, Robert I am so very sorry for your loss. Words can properly express my sorrow.
