Sophia Duda Obituary

Sophia (n'ee Batca) Duda, of 3115 Kenan Road, left this world early in the morning on February 20, 2009. She died peacefully at home after a brief illness.
Born in the former Soviet Union on September 17, 1928, she came to experience life in several countries and cultures before settling in Durham, NC, with her husband, Sadik T. Duda, and two children. Sophia Duda was a devoted and loving friend to an extended group of family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Those who loved her will remember her for her grace, kindness, elegance, and, above all, her wisdom.
Mrs. Duda was laid to rest in a family ceremony at Wake Memorial Park in Cary.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tulin Duda and Harvey Weiss of New Haven, CT; her son and daughter-in-law, Turan and Linda Duda of Durham; her two grandchildren, Aisander and Sophia Ellen Duda. She is also survived by a beloved extended family that includes her brother, his sons and daughter, and her two uncles and their families.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations in Sophia Duda's memory to Duke University's Friends of the Library.
