I attended Duke from 1993-1997, and only knew Steve as the world's biggest Duke fan. A familiar and friendly face who radiated passion and happiness.
Reading his obituary I know now that he was so much more. What an impressive and giving soul.
My condolences to his family.

We are sad to hear about Steve's passing, but rejoice because we know he is with the Lord. It was always a treat to see him behind Coach K and I know the team and Coach K will certainly miss him. I always loved when he came to the Southern High School games and cheered along for us as well. I'm sure he is organizing a cheering section in heaven right now.

My sincere condolences to Phyllis, Eddie and their extended family. What a grand tribute by Duke University to someone who was truly "a fan's fan" in the the most profound sense of the term. My heart goes out to all who knew him. He obviously touched the souls of many, many folks. All my love to North Carolinian's - fans and family - who also regret Steven's passing.

Steve was an amazing man. He cared for others above himself. He loved his family and friends. He was passionate about his family, his favorite team Duke, and his love of golf. Nothing excited him more than two things: being with his family and Duke winning. Steve made a point to always greet people he cared about and to share good news. At Christmas, birthdays, and other holidays he looked forward to giving to others and doing good for others. He had an amazing spirit and an incredible impact on my life. He gave us more than he ever knew.
