Susan Kenny Obituary
July 19, 1957 - July 2, 2021
Durham, North Carolina - Susan Kenny, age 63 passed peacefully on July 2, 2021 from cancer. Susan (Sue) spent her final years travelling and spending precious time with her husband Kevin and the friends and family that she held dear.
Susan was born on July 19th, 1957 in Wichita, Kansas to Wey Dennis Kenny and Agnes Lievens Kenny. Susan grew up alongside her four sisters: Kathy Arenz (Milwaukee, WI), Mary Adair (Kansas City, MO), Pat Kenny (deceased), and Joan Kenny (Lawrence, KS). Susan had an early passion for academics; earning a high school diploma from Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, an undergraduate degree from Kansas State, a masters of ecology from the University of Illinois, and a PhD in statistics from the University of Oklahoma. Susan had a long career as a statistician and worked to pave the way for safer treatments and medications in the United States.
Susan had a love for nature and held a strong appreciation and passion for preserving the natural world. She had a fondness for the Kansas prairie and the culture and history that surrounded it. Susan was known for her grace and kind spirit and was a friend to all walks of life. In her free time, she enjoyed sharing a good meal or beverage with friends and family and travelling with her husband Kevin.
There will be a celebration of life party on August 15th in Chapel Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (www.nps.gov/tapr/getinvolved/donate.htm)

As a SAS colleague and friend, I knew Susan for many years. Susan was always willing to share her knowledge, her passion and love for SAS, her time and talents with the SAS user community and SAS users everywhere. My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with Susan's loved ones. Rest in peace, Susan - you will be missed!

It is sad in many ways how we loose track of family through the years and it takes the loss of one of us to bring us back together to reflect on things that really matter and that is Family. As one of the older cousins I remember our trips to Kansas and Canada to visit the Kenny's. Susan was very young then and I don't have many strong memories of her as she lived out her life, but I very pleased that she did so well with the time she was given here on earth. Beverly and I have donated to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve as Kathy requested and Beverly and I will pray for peace and comfort for the Kenny family during these times.
