I have always considered myself fortunate to have known the entire Byrne family, having grown up close to Wake Forest and been a member of St. Catherine. After moving away, whenever I returned to St. Catherine Mr. Byrne always greeted me with a warm handshake, a pat on the shoulder and a genuine interest in how my family was. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I only met Tommy on one occation at his home with Eileen Smith. He was so gracious and warming to let me in as he did not know me at all. I admire that in a person. He was special.

Since the first day Tommy walked in my store, I felt how special it was to know him and to have him know me! Tommy could brighten a dark room and leave that feeling long after he left. I have never met anyone like Tommy before, and he will always be in my heart

As a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, I was supposed to Hate the Yankees. All of my family & friends loved Tommy Byrne because he was not a Prima Donna, & one of the best all round players on the NY Yankees. We had the pleasure of meeting Tommy & Sue at the Cathedral in Raleigh on Church business, & couldn't resist talking Baseball. Condolences & Blessings to the "Byrne" family.

I feel so blessed to have been able to have played a small role in the last few weeks of your father's life. I shall never forget any of you and especially, you, Susan. My thoughts and prayers go with you as you travel this difficult road ahead. I know your father's spirit will live on in your hearts and you will always cherish those special gifts of the times shared together. Each life is made up of threads woven by the people who pass thru that life. The thread that "Mr. Tommy" left in mine is one of quiet courage, kindness, and grace.

I knew your father through my dad, Irv Dickens, who played baseball with Tommy at Wake Forest. I always enjoyed seeing him at the Wilson Hot Stove League each year and my daughter, Marianne, always loved to hear him talk about his playing days at Wake with her granddaddy. Tommy would always give her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. We now know that there is baseball in heaven, and that they are busy working out the details for an old timers' game with all the former Deacs that have gone before them. Please know that our sympathy and prayers are with your family during this time, and that we also rejoice as we think of the fond memories we have of Tommy and our dad and granddaddy.

To the Byrne family from a former Bronx kid who later made it to the majors with the Chicago Cubs as a front office executive. Your father Tommy was a pleasure to watch play and an inspiration to lots of kids in the 50s who said "pitchers could also hit." May he rest in peace. Thanks for passing through this life and leaving a lasting impression and some fond memories.

Tommy, John, Charles & Susan, so sorry about ya'lls Dad...I know he loved life and I sure enjoyed meeting him at the 50th birthday party. Didn't know Ms. Sue had passed away but am thankful that ya'lls parent has over 60 yrs together. A wonderful testimony to marriage, family, and a wonderful life. My folks are doing well, Dad is almost 90 and Mom, well, she is not as old as Dad. (smiles). I wish ya'll the strength, courage, and faith as you move through this difficult time. Think about all of you often.

As a Wake Forest graduate (1961), I have always been proud that Tommy Bryne was a fellow Deacon. I heard him speak on the old campus several years ago and what a thrill. Thinking of your family as you face the loss of a special member.
