Walter Lambert Obituary

Walter Chris Lambert passed away peacefully after a short illness in Hock Family Pavilion - Duke Hospice in Durham, NC on February 15, 2020. He was 99 years old at his time of passing - just 9 months shy of his centennial celebration.
Walter was born in St. Paul, MN on November 15, 1920 to Lucy Mae and Nicholas Sylvester Petruchek and step-son of Charles Lambert. Later relocated to the Flint, MI vicinity, he graduated from Davison High School in 1939 and completed his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering at General Motors Institute. He entered the US Navy in WWII as a commissioned officer attaining the rank of ensign. After WWII, he worked as an industrial engineer in the automotive industry living in the Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor, MI area with his family for the majority of his vocational days. Walter was gifted in his intellect early in life building his own short wave radio and other electronic devices ultimately developing and receiving a patent for a major component of commercial vending machines.
Walter enjoyed the companionship of his friends and loved to fish, play golf and bridge. He retired in 1991 and relocated to Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, NC where he spent the remainder of his days with his wife, Gloria, and his surrounding family.
Walter married Gloria Ann Haas in Hollywood, FL December 1944 while in military service. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother (Harold Lambert, Davison, MI), his wife of 64 years in 2009 and his son Gary Michael in 2008. He is survived by 2 sons, David Martin Haas Lambert and Walter Brady Lambert - both of Chapel Hill, NC - 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Per his wishes, no memorial service is planned. His cremains along those of his wife and son will be interred in a family plot at Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, MI at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Hock Family Pavilion - Duke Hospice, Durham NC.
