William McClees Obituary

William Borden McClees, 83, of 524 US 64 E, Columbia, died at Britthaven of Outer Banks September 4, 2005.
Mr. McClees was born in Tyrrell County December 31, 1921 to the late William Henry and Beatrice Armstrong McClees. He was a merchant with H.W. McClees and Son for 25 years, a teacher in the Tyrrell County School system for 17 years and was honored with Teacher of the Year in 1980. He worked for the United States Post Office in Columbia before WWII. Mr. McClees was a Veteran Administration officerfor ten years, served as an alderman for the Town of Columbia, was active in the March of Dimes as a treasurer, a Rotary International member, and was treasurer for Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Mr. McClees served hiscountry in the US Navy during WWII.
Survivors: wife, Margaret A. McClees of Columbia; daughter, Carol Swain of Greenville, NC; brother, Ray McClees of Columbia, NC.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Smith & Austin, Walker Chapel, Columbia.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 7 at 11 a.m. at Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia, with Rev. Sherrie James officiating.
Smith & Austin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
