William A. Rudolph

August 2, 1937 - April 30, 2016

Raleigh

William "Bill" Rudolph, died peacefully at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 30, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.

Born August 2, 1937, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Charles and Nadine Rudolph. Bill attended high school at Lawrence Central and graduated from Indiana University in 1959 with a degree in business. He received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in 1962.

After graduation from law school, he joined the trust department at American Fletcher National Bank in Indianapolis where he became vice president. In 1976 he moved to North Carolina where he managed the southeast region's trust division at Wachovia Bank until he retired as a senior vice president in 1998.

Bill was an active member of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, where he served as an elder, teacher, chair of many committees and trustee. He was also a leader in Raleigh's Kiwanis Club, where he shared his time, talents and resources to improve the lives of children and youth. In addition to serving as president, he was elected "Kiwanian of the Year" in 2000 in recognition of his service. He was an avid golfer and tennis player and devoted grandfather to his three beloved grandchildren. Throughout his retirement he and Phyllis traveled throughout the world to their favorite places, including Egypt and Australia, and was ever-present at his grandchildren's sporting events.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years Phyllis Roberts Rudolph; two daughters, Lisa Gwyn (David) and Laura Rudolph Byrd (Scott); his sister, Judith Mendenhall; his three grandchildren, Aydlett and David Gwyn, and Andrew Byrd; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nadine, and his son Brad in 2015.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, and the family will receive afterwards at the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillyer Memorial Christian Church.
