Carol Anne Bartel Ohman

Carol Anne Bartel Ohman, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in Fleming Island, FL, after a long struggle with the autoimmune disease Scleroderma.

Carol was born in Louisville, KY, February 14,1938 to missionary parents. At an early age she lived in China with her parents and attended the American Lutheran School in Kikungshan, which was later moved to Hong Kong in 1947 as Chinese communist forces moved south. Living in China as a child fostered her interest and love for Christian Missions as an adult. She attended the Hampden DuBose Academy in Zellwood, FL, and was a 1958 graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL with a B.A. degree (with Honor). Carol and her husband, Dr. Robert Ohman, moved to Santa Barbara in September 1977 so that Bob could be the Chaplain at Westmont College. She taught public school for twenty years in Dallas, San Jose, and Irvine before coming to Santa Barbara. She taught school for one year in Santa Barbara and then entered the Santa Barbara real estate industry, an occupation that allowed her to bond with others which was something she truly enjoyed. She was a realtor for 28 years in Santa Barbara and three and half years in Carmel. She was a long-time member of El Montecito Presbyterian Church, was active in the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission, and was a board member of STLI (Scientific, Technological, Language Institute), in Kyrgyzstan. Carol and Bob had recently moved to Fleming Island, FL, where she was a member of Grace Anglican Church. Carol loved her family, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and knitting.

Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob, daughter, Dr. Julie Kellogg, sons, Christopher (Hana Ha) Ohman and Jonathan (Amanda) Ohman, brother, Robert J. Bartel, sister, Joan Stough, and six grand children, Nicholas, Noah, Alexander, Marin, Jacob, and Emily.

What a lovely lady she was. Her father Paul was a member of my church and I only met her a few times. I also have Scleroderma. It encourages me to see that she lived a lo ng, full life. Blessings to the family. She is face-to-face with Jesus!
