BARRAGER, Thorne Leigh
67, of Placerville, California, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2015 while backpacking the Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe. Thorne was born January 20th, 1948 in Owatonna, Minnesota. He retired to Placerville from a 30 year career with Exxon Mobil. During his career in the oil industry he worked on the offshore oil rigs along the Santa Barbara coast, as well as on shore as a technician. He graduated from Shattuck-St. Mary's High School in Faribault, Minnesota in 1966, where he was active in all sports. Thorne graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor's degree in Social Science in 1977. Thorne was an accomplished organic gardener and was a member of the UC Davis Master Gardeners. He also owned a heritage turkey business. He enjoyed writing, art, history, travel, hiking and backpacking. Thorne is preceded in death by his parents Ethel Barrager and Philip Barrager. Thorne is survived by his Daughters Jennifer Skalla, Brigette Barrager and Chantelle Hudghton, as well as his siblings, Stephen Barrager, Suzanne Goodman and Joni Graves. Memorial services will be held August 22, 2015 in Placerville, California. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American River Conservancy in Thorne's honor.

We still miss and think of you often. Everytime there are new organics and composting issues (daily @ job), I remember how something as small as the "Thorne Bucket" can make a difference.

I worked with good old Thorney from 1982 until about 2002. He was a lot of fun. Sorry to read he's gone.

I attended SSM with Thorne and he was a great guy.. Very talented, outgoing and really funny.
I know he will certainly be missed..

My family also lived on Hobart St. Across from the Barrager family. My brother, Jim died in Easter Sunday of this year. My brother Craig lives in Austin MN AND I LIVE IN Albert Lea MN and Sun City AZ. I remember many fun times as children on Hobart St. My condolences to the family of Thorne. I might add, we were the Johnson family.

Our family lived on Hobart St in Owatonna, I was nine years old at the time. Tom and I became pals, probably thru our love of sports. Tom left this world prematurely. RIP Tom...blessings to your family.
